British Army Open Water Swimming

Open Water Swimming

Open water swimming is definitely on the up in the UK, particularly after Team GB’s excellent performances at the Beijing Olympics in the 10Km events.

Open water swimming is ideally suited to members of the Armed Forces; it is a tough, challenging and rewarding aquatic discipline. There are lots of events, both military and civilian across the country and they are open to swimmers of various standards. The Army has embraced open water swimming and now runs a training camp in Gibraltar each year.

The main yearly event in the Army open water calendar is the Inter-Services Open water Championships set in Lake Bala, North Wales, generally in Jun each year.
